MOSIEND Urges FG To Enthrone True Federalism In Nigeria
As Izon Nation celebrates the 55th year of the killing of Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro who championed the struggle and the freedom of Niger Delta region, a mass mobilisation group, Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has called on the Federal Government to enthrone true federalism in the country
MOSIEND also urged the incoming government led by the President-Elect, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, to reflect the federal character in his political appointments.
Chairman, Eastern Zone, MOSIEND, Comrade Ibiwari Dublin Green, made the call during the 2023 commemoration of late Major Boro at the Boro Park field, Port Harcourt.
Green, who spoke with The Tide at the event, recalled that the late activist declared the Niger Delta as a republic due to its neglect and marginalization by the Nigerian government.
He regretted that 55 years after Boro’s death, the Niger Delta region still remains in state of abject poverty and marginalization.
He said, “Marginalization and abject poverty still loom in Ijaw communities till date. I call on the Federal Government to restructure the entire Nigerian State.
“We want the Federal Government to create an even development in the region and alleviate poverty and suffering faced by the people.
“Niger Delta communities have been neglected and abandoned by the Nigerian States over the years, thereby neglecting the struggles of its founding father, Isaac Adaka Boro”.
The group appealed to the Federal Government to reposition the Niger Delta region and improve its socio-economic development.
“There are good brains, educated persons from Niger Delta extraction that can deliver the Nigerian States.
“There is political and economic slavery in Niger Delta communities over the years. Ijaw nation needs liberation and freedom from the hands of its oppressors”, he said.
MOSIEND called for total liberation and freedom from its oppressors.
Also speaking at the occasion, Public Relations Officer, Eastern Zone, MOSIEND, Comrade Tamuno Tonye Ebeneezer, called on Rivers State Governor-Elect, Sir Similaiye Fubara, to diversify the state economy and create jobs for the teeming youths of the state.
He appealed to the incoming administration in the state to also diversify the transport and marine sectors and attract investors to the state.
