Jigawa, Dutch Experts Sign MoU Against Flood

The Jigawa State Government has entered into an agreement with the Netherlands on an annual flood disaster prevention and control in the state.
This was contained in a press statement made available to The Tide’s source in Dutse, Jigawa State capital, by the Commissioner of Special Duties, Mr Auwql D. Sankara, who said the signing ceremony was held at the Nigerian Embassy in Hague Netherland, where Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar of the state, signed on behalf of the State Government.
According to the statement, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the flood prevention and protection experts, KWT and AVECO DE BONDT of Netherlands, and the JIgawa State Government was aimed at permanently ending the flooding that annually ravage the state, claiming the lives of people, domestic animals and disrupting economic activities in the State.
It said Governor Abubakar, while signing the MoU, expressed optimism that the collaboration with the Dutch experts would bring about a final solution to end flooding in the state.
He said, “the flooding in our state has been a major setback for our economy and has caused a lot of hardship to our people.
“We are committed to finding a lasting solution to this problem, and we are confident that the expertise of KWT and AVECO DE BONDT will be instrumental in achieving this goal.
”We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with the Dutch experts to find a permanent solution to the problem of flooding in our state.
“We believe that this collaboration will bring about the much-needed relief to our people and boost economic activities in the state”.
The Dutch experts, in turn, gave assurance on their readiness to work with the Jigawa State Government technical team to eradicate flooding in the state.
“We are excited to be partnering with the Jigawa State Government in this project. We are confident that our expertise in flood prevention and protection will be beneficial to the people of Jigawa State,” a representative of KWT said.
The ceremony has formally laid the foundation towards eradicating flooding permanently in Jigawa State with the people of the state being optimistic that the partnership would yield positive results.
The programme was witnessed by the Ambassador of Nigeria to the Netherlands, Her Excellency, Dr Eniola Olaitan Ajayi, Chairman of the Nigeria Dutch Business Association and other stakeholders.
