EFCC Inaugurates Two Integrity Clubs In PH, Benin

In a bid to stamp out corruption in the country, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has inaugurated two more integrity clubs in two secondary schools in the South South.
The clubs were located at Besona International School, King Jaja Street, New Layout, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and Edo Boys High School, Benin, Edo State.
This was disclosed in a statement by the EFCC spokesperson and Head, Media & Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
The EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, in the statement, charged the students to be anti-corruption ambassadors and be willing to report corrupt practices in their environment.
Bawa, represented by Superintendent of EFCC, SE Akpos Deborah Mezeh-Ekisowe, charged the students to uphold the core values of the Club, which is integrity, discipline and honesty.
“Be children of integrity, be useful to your parents and as well as the society. Channel your creative energies to useful engagements and not dishonest and dubious activities such as cheating,” she said.
The EFCC boss explained that the purpose of the Integrity Club is to promote the values of honesty among members, expose every conduct that is not in line with truth and integrity, and discourage acts of deceits, disobedience of rules and regulations of the school, society and the country at large.
The Principal of the school, Mr. Njoku Chinesom, in his remarks, thanked the EFCC for choosing Besona international School for the inauguration of the Club.
“I am here today to officially welcome you to embrace a new baby we are going to give birth to. I welcome you to a new Club we want to introduce. If you look at our society today, you will discover that bribery and corruption have become the order of the day. I want to use this opportunity to tell you that there is something that’s more precious than bribery and corruption and that is integrity”, he said.
In the same vein, Miss Miidam Ewonubari Precious, a teacher and patroness of the Club expressed her gratitude to the EFCC for inaugurating the Club in the school, while urging the students to shun any involvement in acts of corruption and financial crimes.
Also Miss Iwo Medlin, the President of the Club, expressed her willingness to promote integrity among students.
About 116 students took the oath of service alongside the executives.
In a similar development, the EFCC Benin Zonal Command, last Friday, inaugurated EFCC Integrity Club at Edo Boys High School, Benin City.
Bawa who was represented by Head, Public Affairs Department, EFCC, Williams Oseghale, urged the students to uphold the core values of the Club which is integrity, discipline, responsibility, tolerance and patriotism.
“Let these attributes be your guiding principles. You are to be a good example of conduct and character.”, he said, urging them further to adhere and live by the slogan of the Club ‘Integrity starts with me.’
A teacher in the school and patron of the Club, Akinfolarin Mojeed, thanked the EFCC for Inaugurating the Club.
According to him, the Club would help to discourage the students from joining yahoo yahoo boys and other miscreants, and also help to raise young people who will frown at corruption.
President of the Club, Osagie Godsent, said, “I am happy that the EFCC has chosen to establish an Integrity Club in my school. This will help to boost the morale of the students”.
