Borno Workers Laud Govt Over Improved Welfare
The organised labour in Borno State has commended the State Goverment for living up to expectation in delivering dividends of democracy and welfare of workers.
The State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr Yusuf Inuwa, made the commendation on Monday while speaking at this year’s May Day celebration in Maiduguri.
Inuwa said workers would continue to assist the administration in the implementation of its policies to facilitate development and creation of good working environment for workers.
“Your Excellency, labour have been monitoring your administration with keen interest and sincerely speaking you have lived up to the expectation of our people by providing a purposeful leadership that has transformed the state to another level..
“Labour wish to on behalf of the workers appreciate your concern in addressing issues that affects thier welfare.
“Your ability to address issues such as timely salary payment, gratuity, and leave transport grant, promotional benefits and payment of pension is worthy of commendation and we hope you will do more in your second tenure”, Inuwa said.
He however urged the Governor to look into the problem of workers omitted during the last implementation of promotion benefit, gratuity and pension.
He also appealed for extension of years of service to teachers to be extended to other categories of staff, and approval of remaining 10 per cent professional allowances to medical and health workers.
In his goodwill message, the Controller, Federal Ministry of Labour in Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim, who spoke on the history of Workers Day, urged for dialogue in resolving labour disputes.
In his fraternity message, the Borno Acting Head of Service, Malam Fannami, assured workers of government commitment to the yearnings of workers in the state.
“My office will continue to sustain and consolidate on the good working relationship with workers”, Fannami said.
The Guest Speaker, Prof. Ibrahim Umara, who spoke on the theme of this year’s celebration, “Workers’ Right and Socio-Economic Justice”, urged government to be considerate over the issue of meagre salaries to workers and allow workers to do double job to earn more money.
