Basketball: PH Hosts Atlantic Conference Championship

Port Harcourt, the Capital City of Rivers State, is currently hosting the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Atlantic Conference Championship, holding at Basketball Court Niger/Bende Street, Port Harcourt Township.
Six teams are battling to win the tournament as winner will gain promotion to National Division One Basketball League in Nigeria.
The six teams are; High Flyers of Benin, Favour Arena  of Port Harcourt,  Books & Ball of Osun State,  Federal Poly, Nekede , Raptors of Lagos and Anambra of Anambra State.
Speaking the Chairman of the event, Abba Kaka, said the five days tournament would end this Friday, May19th 2023.
He commended the Rivers State Government under the leadership of Governor Nyesom Wike and the State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Christopher Green for hosting the competition.
According to him, the hospitality given to NBBF members , players and other officials was enormous.
“I thank Rivers State Government and the people of the State  for hosting us, the hospitality we have received so far was commendable.
“In fact, one of the major reasons why we  brought the tournament here was because of hospitable nature of Rivers people. I tell you many States were struggling to host this competition,we said no it will be in Port Harcourt,” Kaka said.
Speaking, the Secretary General of NBBF, Njoku Peter, said the tournament was sponsored by TotalEnergies, saying that the six teams will play in two groups and winner of the Championship will be promoted to National Division One League.
Also speaking, the coordinator of the Atlantic Conference, coach Fubara Onyanabo, said every arrangement have been put in place for a successful and hitch free competition.
He thanked NBBF as they deemed it fit to  host the conference  here in Port Harcourt, inviting all sports loving people in the State to come and  watch.
At the end of the first game, High Flyers of Benin beat Books & Ball of Osun, 52-47.
