UPTH Denies Sending Mothers, Newborn Babies Home Due To Blackout

The Management of University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) has denied online reports that the hospital ordered mothers and new born babies home due to blackout in the hospital.
The hospital called on the public to disregard the reports as there is no oita of truth in the said online reports.
UPTH in a statement by its Acting Public Relations, Elahba Meni, described the publication as mischievous and capable of misleading the public, especially patients’ relatives.
She noted that all patients on admission including pediatrics were receiving adequate treatments as at when due as doctors, nurses and all other supports staffs are on their duty post.
Meni said it has never been a practice for the management to refer patients outside the hospital without approximate protocols, describing the report as misleading.
“The closure of any section of the hospital or suspension of services are weighty decisions that hospital management will communicate to the public through its approved channels”, the statement clarified.
The hospital appealed to the public to always verify reports about any patients under its care from the appropriate UPTH channels before making comments.
The statement added that UPTH strives to serves the public by providing excellent tertiary care to all patients in its care.
“We strive to provide excellent high level tertiary care to our patients as we try to satisfy our patients”, it said.
