Following the National Universities Commission (NUC) November/December 2022 accreditation in Rivers State University (RSU), Port Harcourt, results of all the programmes have been fully approved 100 per cent.
Speaking to newsmen during a press conference organised at the university’s main auditorium, last Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof. Nlerum Okogbule, stated that the university obtained full accreditation status for all the 24 academic programmes presented for the exercise.
Okogbule described the results received from NUC as a rare and unprecedented feat in the annals of the history of the university since its establishment in 1980, adding that it is the first time that the university has recorded this level of success in the accreditation exercise.
He stressed that the results signed by the Deputy Director, Programme Accreditation, Architect S.S. Ikani, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of NUC had none of the university programmes denied accreditation nor was given interim accreditation, emphasing that this explains why RSU is now a university of choice by candidates seeking admission to various programmes.
The VC listed the 24 academic programmes, given full accreditation as follows: Accounting, English, History and Diplomatic Studies, Religious Studies, Theatre Arts, Philosophy, Anatomy, Physiology, Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Others include Architecture, Land Surveying, Urban and Regional Planning, Law, Medicine and Surgery, Animal and Environmental Biology, Biochemistry, Mathematics, Microbiology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology and Mass Communication.
The Vice Chancellor used the opportunity to announce that academic activities have resumed in the university satellite campuses, listing the campuses as Ahoada, Emohua and Etche, beginning with year one students, while other levels will move to the campuses on a gradual basis beginning from next year.
Okogbule aknowledged the robust support the university has enjoyed from visitor to the university, the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyeson Wike and the Governing Council of the university under the leadership of Hon. Justice (Dr) Iche Ndu.
According to him, “What we have seen today is the fruit of their support to the management of the university and I pledge on behalf of the university management to continue to do our very best to sustain the tempo of monumental achievements in the university”.
