The Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) on Saturday declared Chief Godknows Obein, candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) winner of the State House of Assembly rerun polls for Ogbia constituency 2 while Engineer Rodney Ebikebina Ambaiowei of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was announced winner of the Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency contest.
Ambaiowei polled 13,992 votes to defeat his closest rival, Hon. Preye Oseke of the APC who scored 12,992.
Oseke is the incumbent member of the House of Representatives, for the Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency.
The Head, Voter Education and Publicity of the state office of INEC, Mr Wilfred Ifogah, said Chief Godknows Obein of the APC for Ogbia State Constituency 2 won the rerun elections, polling 5291 votes to defeat Hon. Gibson Edwin Munalayefa of the PDP who got 4342 votes.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr Samuel Ogbuku, has lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the electorate of Ogbia Constituency 2 of Bayelsa State for the peaceful rerun polls conducted last Saturday.
Ogbuku noted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state had been repositioned to win all future polls following the recent support its candidates have garnered in their various constituencies across the state as shown by the results in recent polls.
The helmsman of the interventionist agency stated this during an interview with journalists shortly after casting his vote at his home town, Ayakoro, Unit 1, Ward 3 of Ogbia State Constituency 2.
He described the APC’s House of Assembly candidate and winner of the Ogbia State Constituency 2 rerun election, Chief Godknows Obein as popular and accepted across party lines.
“Our candidate, Chief Godknows Obein, has a wide range of support from his Constituents. He’s loved and admired by his Constituents and he’s a sellable candidate in any election”, Ogbuku said.
