The ever busy Aba Road in Port Harcourt was briefly shut down on Wednesday as Rivers State Governor-Elect, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Ordu, and the 32 State Assembly members-elect were presented with their certificates of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Before the brief ceremony kicked off in the afternoon, Peoples Democratic Party members had thronged the INEC office to witness the ceremony.
The presence of the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, added colour to the event as the venue went agog with his arrival.
INEC National Commissioner for Rivers and Bayelsa, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, presided over the ceremony as she personally handed over the certificate of return to Sir Fubara, who was in company of his wife, Mrs Valley Fubara.
As the ceremony went on many passersby, friends and well-wishers milled around the Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway office of INEC, anxious to have a peek at the governor-elect and his deputy.
The situation disrupted vehicular movements and resulted in a gridlock, forcing commuters and vehicles to take alternative routes to their destinations.
Also at the INEC office to collect their Certificates of Return were the 32 House of Assembly members-elect.
Chief Wike, among other top party faithful and immediate family members of the recipients, took time to have photoshots with the governor- elect.
Members-elect of Rivers State House of Assembly received their Certificates of Return from the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Sinikiem Alalibo.
Speaking shortly on behalf of his deputy and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Governor-Elect, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, enjoined Rivers people to support the incoming administration.
He expressed readiness to take up the responsibility of governing the state by sustaining and building on the legacy of Chief Wike, who he described as father and leader and mentor.
Fubara assured the people that the door of the incoming administration was open to all, including the opposition, for objective and collective efforts to moving the State forward.
