Women, Children Development Indicate Good Governance – Group

An Abuja based group, known as The League of Concerned Women for Equity and Justice (LOCWEJ), says the development of women and children was an indication of good governance and stimulus to speedy national development.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the group, Mr Thomas George, and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Sunday.
He explained that the group was founded in 2014 with the deep passion for promoting and defending the interests of women and vulnerable children and groups in Nigeria.
According to him, the group  has since inception provided succour to thousands of women and children in the areas of medical outreach programmes, food support and payment of school fees.
“We did this for indigent children in some remote parts of the FCT,” he said.
“A cardinal aspect of the set goals of the organisation revolves around providing legal representation to women, especially widows who suffer disenfranchisement due to cultural and traditional bias practices.
“Our forthcoming conference with the theme ‘A New Nigeria: Re-defining the Dynamics for Effective Leadership – 2023 and Beyond’, will be under the distinguished chairmanship of His Eminence John Cardinal Onaiyekan.
“The conference would attract about 3,000 participants cutting across major gladiators for the 2023 general elections,” he said.
The meeting would also be attended by members of  the Diplomatic Corps, women and youth organisations, political and opinion leaders, Akor said.
He added that, Dr Saad Abubakar Ill, the Sultan of Sokoto, would be the Royal Father of the Day.
“There will be special conferment of Excellence Service Awards to few painstakingly selected Nigerians and organisations with a view to spurring others to tow their  line,” he explained.
The conference was expected to hold on Jan. 25, at the National Centre for Women Development, Abuja.
