N15m Bribe: Group Urges Buhari, IGP To Reward Six Police Officers In Bayelsa
As a way of rewarding diligence, selfless service, commitment and hardwork, a human rights group, the International Human Rights Protection Initiative, South-South Office, has called for immediate reward and recognition of six police detectives who rejected N15 million cash bribe offered them by a kidnapping kingpin and criminal gang leader in Bayelsa State.
The Executive Director of IRHP, South-South, Comrade John Ihua, made this call while speaking with journalists in his office in Port Harcourt, yesterday, adding that the gesture would not only serve as motivation but encouragement for hardwork and selfless service, which according to him, would encourage other personnel to be good ambassadors of the police force.
According to him, the six police officers: DCP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu; SP Adodo O. Monday; SP Emmanuel Okoi; Inspt Paul Ojezuanbi; SGT Osang Dennis; and SGT Valentine Ekwo; attached to Zone 16 Police Command Headquarters, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, had exhibited rare sense of selfless service to the country, and displayed uncommon human behaviour by chosing to toe right part of life without taking advantage of the economic challenges and poor remuneration of personnel of the force to compromise of their core duties.
He, therefore, described their action as rare in nature and unbelievable, adding that rewarding them in terms of promotion and national awards would be a better way to reciprocate and reward selfless service and professionalism.
It would be recalled that sometime in the month of September, 2022, the above mentioned six detectives arrested one Charles Augaseigha, male of 36 age,an alleged kidnap suspect, believed to be responsible for various crimes and kidnapping activities within Bayelsa and its environs.
But through credible intelligence, the suspect was arrested and he confessed that he and his gang had been robbing and kidnapping around Bayelsa/Rivers states, and they had been collecting huge amounts from their victims.
The Tide learnt that the confession also led to the arrest of one of the gang leaders called ‘Abuja Big Boy’.
It was also revealed that during interrogation, the suspect pleaded with the team to release them, and offer them N15 million cash but the team rejected it.
The team later recovered the money and registered it as exhibit.
