N15 Million Bribe: Group Wants Buhari, IGP To Reward Officers
As ways of rewarding diligence, selfless service, commitment and hard work, a human rights group, the International Human Rights Protection Initiative, South-South Office, has called for immediate reward and recognition of the six police detectives who rejected a fifteen million naira (N15million) cash bribe offered to them by a criminal and kidnapping kingpins in Bayelsa state .
The executive director of IRHP South-South ,
Comrade John Ihua made this call while speaking with journalists in his office in Port Harcourt , Tuesday and added that the gesture would not only serve as motivation force ,but an encouragement for hard work and selfless service which according to him, will encourage other security personnel in the country to be a good ambassadors of the police force .
According to him the six police officers DCP. Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, SP Adodo O. Monday, SP. Emmanuel Okoi, Inspt Paul Ojezuanbi, SGT Osang Dennis, and SGT valentine Ekwo attached to one 168 police command headquarters Yenagoa, Bayelsa state have exhibited a rare sense of selfless service to the country and displayed an uncommon human behaviour by choosing to toe the right path of life without taken advantage of the economic challenges and poor remuneration of personnel of the force to compromise their rules of engagement but outrightly rejected the huge sum offered given to them .
He therefore described their actions as rare in nature and unbelievable in the nation’s security forces where corruption had become the trademark and added that rewarding them in terms of promotion and national awards by the police hierarchy and the presidency would be a better way to reciprocate and reward them for selfless service and promote patriotism among nation’s security outfits .
It would be recalled that sometime in the month of September, 2022 that the above mentioned six officers team of detectives arrested one Charles Augaseigha, male, 36 an alleged kidnapping suspect believed to be responsible in various crimes and kidnapping activities within Bayelsa State and its environs through intelligence information and the suspect confessed that he and his gang had been robbing and kidnapping around Bayelsa/Rivers States and they had been collecting huge amounts from their victims.
The Tide learnt that the confession also led to the arrest of one of the gang called Abuja big boy.
It was also revealed that during the interrogation the suspect pleaded with the team to release them and offer them fifteen million naira (15million) cash but the team rejected it and recovered the money which was later marked as exhibit.
