Gov Yahaya Appoints Caretaker Chairmen For Gombe LGAs

Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has approved the appointment of caretaker chairmen for the 11 Local Government Councils in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof Ibrahim Njodi, said this in a press statement by Mr Ismaila Uba-Misilli, Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House, on Tuesday in Gombe State.
Njodi announced the new appointees as approved by the governor to include the following: Abubakar Barambu – Akko LGA, Garba Garus – Balanga LGA, Margret Bitrus – Billiri LGA, Jamilu Shabewa – Dukku LGA and Ibrahim Cheldu – Funakaye LGA.
Others are: Aliyu Haruna – Gombe LGA, Faruk Umar – Kaltungo LGA, Ibrahim Buba – Kwami LGA, Salisu Dendele – Nafada LGA, Yohanna Nahari – Shongom LGA and Garba Usman – Yamaltu/Deba LGA.
According to the statement, all appointments take immediate effect. Our correspondent reports that in December 2022, the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Gombe State had issued a notification on the expiration of tenure of Local Government Councils.
Subsequently, Yahaya, on December 21, 2022 approved the dissolution of the 11 Local Government Councils in the state with immediate effect.
The dissolution was said to have followed the expiration of the tenure of LG councils’ chairmen, deputy chairmen, and councillors on Dec. 21, 2022.
On its part, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Gombe State chapter, had, at a press conference on Dec. 29, 2022, said the state government planned to appoint caretaker chairmen, which it rejected describing it as “illegal and unconstitutional.”
IPAC, instead called on the state government to make arrangements to conduct LG election in Gombe State and not to re-appoint the 11 Local council chairmen in caretaker capacity.
