Wave FM Wins SWAN/Henry Kalio Cup

Wave FM Port Harcourt has emerged champions of this year’s Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Rivers State chapter football competition tagged Henry Kalio Cup, after beating hard fighting Ozuoba Media Axis 2-1 yesterday at the Sharks Football Stadium in Port Harcourt.
The tournament which saw media houses merged into zones saw NTA/Ozouba media axis defeat Ikwerre/Aba Road 3-1 in the semi-final, while Wave FM defeated Cool/ Wazobia/Info/ Today FM 1-0 in the second semi-final.
Speaking after the final match, the wife of late Henry Kalio, Mrs Grace Kalio said she felt great and honoured over the honour given to her late husband by the association , which has been on for 18 years since her husband’s death.
She expressed appreciation for immortalising her late husband, saying that SWAN was actually doing well in terms of sports writing in the State.
Mrs. Kalio further thanked the State SWAN chairman, Sarah David, and members, most especially, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the competition for a successful outing.
“I am really grateful honestly, for what SWAN has been doing to keep the memories of my late husband.
“SWAN has been helpful since the death of my husband in different ways.
“They aired about his life and the good works he has done when he was alive,” Mrs Kalio said.
She explained that her late husband loved his job more than any other thing because the day he died, they were supposed to be on their honeymoon, as their wedding was not up to three months.
“Before his journey to Osogbo by that time I was pregnant and I was even telling him not to travel but he refused and had that accident that took him away from me.
“They have done so well I gave them kudos,” she said.
Meanwhile, Wave FM was given N70,000.00 for winning the tournament while the runner up went home with N30,000.00.
There were also prizes for the best player, best goalkeeper and highest goal scorer.
