Chairman of Nigeria Medical Association, Rivers State branch, Dr. Ebbi Robinson, has praised the health care delivery in the state, pointing out that quality control is essential ingredient to sustain the system.
Speaking in an exclusive chat with The Tide, Dr. Robinson observed that though the healthcare in Rivers State is above national average, there is need to still raise the bar further.
He said the major challenge now is poor motivation of medical personnel, as there is need for strengthening human resource with welfare in order to get better services from the doctors.
‘There is need for promotion, motivation, and allowances should be given as at when due. And so for me there is room for improvement” Robinson remarked.
The Rivers NMA chairman on the other hand decried that there is shortage of medical personnel and urged the state government to engage more doctors.
For now there is enough facilities but there is shortage of doctors. We do not have enough manpower to man them.”
Robinson noted that with new health facilities being built and established by the Wike administration, there is need for commensurate manpower to manage and deliver quality health services to the people”.
Asked of the level of disease burden in the state, the NMA Chairman said, “it’s a general thing but for now malaria, high blood pressure remain top. There is so much stress and the economy is having a toll on the people”.
He urged the people to be alive to their health and stop patronising quacks.
“ I urged the people to take their health serious and they should consult medical professionals,” he said.
Robinson added that society should also learn to be patient with medical personnel, saying “ healing is a process and medicare is expensive all over the world.”
