PHED MD Tasks UNICAL Alumni On Mentorship, Leadership …Meets Winner Of Miss Hamilton Beauty Pageant
The Managing Director of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED)Plc, Dr. Benson Uwheru, has tasked alumni of the institution on the need to mentor leaders to drive the nation’s development aspirations going forward.
He gave the indication when the Port Harcourt Chapter of the Alumni of the University of Calabar conferred an award of Excellent Service on him in Port Harcourt.
Uwheru said that by doing so, the alumni would have played their role in helping to mould a better society for future generations.
He thanked the body for their gesture, and assured them that he would continue to ensure that the environment would always be comfortable for employees of the organisation to perform their functions diligently.
Speaking at the event, President of the Port Harcourt Chapter of the alumni association, Barrister John Uche, disclosed that the award was in recognition and appreciation of Uwheru’s excellent and impactful leadership, given the overwhelming testimonies from both staff and customers of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc.
According to Uche, Uwheru’s leadership style has not gone unnoticed.
He noted that he was deserving of the award for creating a conducive atmosphere and workplace culture that enable employees to work seamlessly.
Uche revealed that the alumni were a group of intellectuals from the academia, who have identified the MD/CEO as an epitome of Transformational Leadership and Corporate Governance, and urged him to maintain the standard experienced and enjoyed now in the company.
In another development, the PHED managing director received the winner of the just-concluded Miss Hamilton Nigeria 2022, EdoseEromosele, a graduate trainee, currently in the company’s employment.
Eromosele, the winner of the pageant, eulogised Dr. Benson Uwheru, and acknowledged that she has been highly influenced and guided by the company’s core values remodelled by the MD when he assumed office.
She said the elements of the core values motivated and ignited her passion to contest the Beauty Pageant.
Eromosele expressed gratitude to Uwheru for his guidance, and requested for opportunities to collaborate with the company as a brand ambassador in its community engagement activities.
In response, the PHED managing director showered encomiums on the Beauty Queen, and noted that he was a proponent of work-life balance, so long as it does not affect employees’ performance of their responsibilities.
He encouraged the Beauty Queen to promote the company positively during her reign, and join the Corporate Communications Department where she truly fits as a brand ambassador to fully explore her interest in community relations.
Uwheru noted, “Times without number, I have emphasised that staff should live the true meaning of the company’s core values even in their private lives”.
