The newly elected chapter members of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEC) at the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) Plc have paid a courtesy visit to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of PHED, Dr. Benson Uwheru to familiarise themselves with the management team.
The executive officers also used the opportunity of the visit to present the managing director with an award of excellence.
The team was led to the Corporate Headquarters of the company by the Deputy General Secretary, South-South and South-East of SSAEC, Comrade Lord Douglas.
Douglas, introduced the PHED chapter executives, who will pilot the affairs of the union at every region in the company, said that one of the key reasons for the visit was to seek areas of partnership for improved working relations and productivity.
The deputy general secretary assured the MD/CEO that the elected members would ensure that employee-union-related issues would not be treated with kid gloves but would ensure that every issue was handled to foster and promote healthy work environment and encourage performance and productivity in the company.
He also disclosed that the leadership of the union would continue to rally around staff members to reciprocate management’s gesture by ensuring they were committed to sustaining and exceeding the successes recorded so far in the company since the MD/CEO assumed office.
Douglas applauded the positive impact of the leadership style of Uwheru in creating calm and peaceful atmosphere that has spurred staff to demonstrate their ability and commitment to the prosperity of the company.
In recognition of the positive impact he has made since he assumed office and the promising signs of turning around the fortunes of the company, the union conferred an Award of Exceptional Performance on Uwheru, and declared their unreserved support for the PHED management.
In his response, the PHED Managing Director, Dr Benson Uwheru, thanked the union’s executive for the visit, and assured that his management would work closely with the union to ensure that workers’ welfare was given priority attention.
He said that this was necessary because a motivated staff would trigger improved performance, and better position the company to meet its mandates in the franchise states.
