Monarch Raises Alarm Over Drug Peddlers’ Activities

The Paramount Ruler of Atali Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Eze Theophilus Ejekwu, has raised an alarm over the activities of drug peddlers in the community, and urged security agencies and the state government to act fast to check the trend.
Ejekwu raised the alarm during a familiarisation visit to his palace by the new Divisional Police Officer of Elimgbu Police Station, DSP Mark Doyo, recently.
He said it was imperative that security agencies and government at all levels put up a serious fight against hard drugs in his domain, stressing that the activities of drug peddlers portend serious threat to his people if not checked.
Ejekwu further noted that his community had been ravaged by this ugly trend mostly perpetrated by the youths.
While pleading with the authorities concerned to intervene and assist his people tackle the dreaded monster, Ejekwu said the moment the authorities fight the scourge to a standstill, the peace and security of his community would be guaranteed.
The paramount ruler urged the new DPO to focus on his core mandate which is protection of lives and property.
In his speech, DSP Mark Doyo, promised to work with traditional rulers and other relevant stakeholders to reduce criminality in the area to the barest minimum, and thanked Ejekwu for his warm reception.
Doyo further hinted that policing was everyone’s business, and therefore, stressed the need for all hands to be on deck to defeat criminality.
He sought the cooperation, support and collaboration of community leaders to achieve success, adding that the synergy between the police and community leaders would go a long way to reduce crime in communities.
He urged the people to always release vital information capable of helping the police to do their job.
Other places visited by the new DPO and his team included Rumuahara and Rumuokwurusi communities where elders, the CDCs and youth bodies assured the DPO of their total support.
