Minister Hails Wike On Women Dev …Harps On Child Rights Protection
The Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen,has commended the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for recognising the strategic roles being played by the women in statedevelopment through the various appointments given them to in strategic positions.
Tallen, who spoke at the opening of a four-day Capacity Building for Judges, Magistrates, Assessors and Registrars of family courts on Child Justice Administration in Port Harcourt, organised by the state Judiciary, noted that women were most vulnerable because they fall victim of rape and other attacks, and described such as unacceptable.
The minister, who was a former deputy governor of Plateau State, said the family court on Child Justice Administration was one of the things being sought by her ministry to promote and protect the Child Right Act.
She said that the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs was working in partnership with relevant authorities to tackle the concerns of women and children.
On her part, the wife of Rivers State Governor, Justice Suzette Eberechi Nyesom-Wike,said the family court and Child Right Law of Rivers State stand as major instrument in protecting children, saying that failure to take care of issues of children could be dangerous to the society.
In his address,the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi,who was represented by Justice E. Thompson during the opening ceremony of the training, said children must be handled with special care, insisting that the consequences would be high if the society fails to handle the issues of children promptly.
He maintained the capacity building would help equip the judges, magistrates and other groups or organisations who take care of children with the right knowledge to project and care for them.
