A Pan-Ijaw group, the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Eastern Zone, Opobo/Ibani Clan, has passed a vote of confidence on Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for his leadership doggedness that has delivered quality and people-oriented development dividends to the electorate in the state.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt shortly after its National Working Committee (NWC)  meeting and signed by its Chairman, Clinton Ogolo, Coordinator, Ibitamuno Cookey-Gam and Secretary, Emmanuel Diri respectively, IYC said it was satisfied with the development projects of the chairman of Opobo/Nkoro LGA, Dr Enyiada Cookey-Gam.
The organisation maintained that it was happy with the numerous transformational achievements that had been recorded for the betterment of the people on infrastructure, roads construction and  rehabilitation; the building of flyovers across the metropolis to decongest traffic, human capital development, empowerment and regular payment of salaries and pensions to workers and retirees as and when due, as well as the restoration of security, among other development programmes.
The group stressed that by the efforts of the Wike-led government in the state and that of Cookey-Gam in the LGA, restoration of peace and the security of lives and property have been achieved, describing the duo of Wike and Cookey-Gam as “doyens of exemplary leadership in the state since the emergence of democratic rule over 20 years ago in Nigeria.”
“Wike and Cookey-Gam’s leadership performance thus far in Rivers State and Opobo/Nkoro LGA would remain historic from generation to generation. We would continue to appreciate God Almighty for giving us worthy persons like Nyesom Wike as Governor of our great state and Enyiada Cookey-Gam as Chairman of our LGA, who never give up in their quest to build an egalitarian Rivers State of our founding fathers’ dream”, they noted.
Meanwhile, the group, in the statement also said that the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next year’s general elections, Sir Siminialayi Fubara was the right choice by the party to succeed Governor Nyesom Wike in 2023 to consolidate on the administration’s quality development legacy.
“Fubara’s approach to leadership quest to redefine governance in 2023 as governor remain acceptable and convincing. IYC is fully prepared to sensitize and mobilize voters in the state to ensure total victory both in Opobo/Nkoro LGA in particular and Rivers State in general.
“We also appeal to Rivers voters and Nigerians to ensure that they cast their votes for Sim Fubara and other PDP candidates for him and his team to consolidate on the lofty development legacies of the Wike-led government.” IYC said.
