The newly commissioned Justice Mary Odili Judicial Institute built by the Rivers State Government will enhance effective dispensation of justice in the state.
A member of the Rivers State Judicial Commission, Barrister Clifford Oparaodu, who stated this in Port Harcourt, also said the institute would improve legal education in the state and country.
Oparaodu revealed that the learning institute would help judicial workers in the state and country for their continued legal education, and save cost and risk of travelling to Abuja to attend the Federal Judicial Institute.
He explained that the institute was timely, adding that it would decongest the already congested Federal Judicial Institute in Abuja, which accommodates all judicial workers in the country.
According to him,”The Justice Mary Odili Judicial Institute will save cost for judicial workers in Rivers State, South-South and South-East.
“It will be less expensive for those of us in the South-South and South-East.Less flight ticket, accommodation and other expenses would be less”.
Oparaodu commended the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for his innovation and initiative in projects’ execution that have direct impact on Rivers people.
The commissioner said judges in the state were happy with the governor because of his numerous incentives and projects for the Judiciary.
According to him,”Wike has built Judges Quarters, court rooms, the Port Harcourt Campus of the Nigerian Law School and many others”.
He explained that the Judiciary was one of the three service commissions recognised by law.
He listed others to include Civil Service Commission and Independent National Electoral Commission.
Oparaodu said Wike has done more than expected for Rivers State, adding that all the sectors of the economy have been touched with his leadership skills and dexterity.
