RSG Trains Teachers On Contemporary Teaching Skills
Rivers State Government through the Ministry of Education has trained public school Principals and Teachers on contemporary teaching skills.
The capacity training workshop which was aimed at improving the teaching capacity of public school teachers in order for them to function effectively and be updated with contemporary teaching skills, took place at difference zones in the state.
Speaking in a statement made available to The Tide by the Senior Information Officer, Tochi Abinye Pepple, recently, at the Government Girls Secondary School Oromenike, Venue for Port Harcourt Zone, the Commissioner for Education Prof Prince Chinedu Mmom JP, said Rivers State government is committed to improving the quality of teachers and Principals for better service delivery.
Prof. Mmom said the workshop which was the first in the line up of other trainings to come, serve as a refresher course for teachers , in as much as knowledge is dynamic and teaching techniques are also changing.
In his words ” the society we are in is dynamic and knowledge is also dynamic. In other words, things keep changing. The techniques we used to know before may no longer be sustainable in the contemporary times. That was why on assumption of duty, I told myself that there will be a refresher course for teachers”
The education boss urged teachers to use the training workshop to enhance their capacities while acquiring more knowledge to improve on their service delivery to the children entrusted into their care, which he said is the essense of the training.
He thanked the Rivers State Governor, His Excellency, Chief Nyesom Wike for graciously approving the training and also thanked the resource persons.
One of the beneficiaries of the workshop,a teacher in Model Junior Secondary School G.R.A, Port Harcourt, Mr. Elekwachi Augustine, commended the commissioner for Education, Prof Mmom, for keeping to his promise of organising a training workshop for teachers saying that he has improved his knowledge through the Workshop.
Also the Principal of Government Girls Secondary School Oromenike Mrs. Roseline Amadi on behalf of other teachers, thanked the commissioner for organising such a workshop noting that teachers, have not had such training in a long time.
