RSG Passionate About School Sports Dev – Okiri
The Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on School Sports, Aribitonye Okiri has said that the State Governor Chief Nyesom Wike, remains passionate over School Sports development in all ramification.
According to him, School Sports is an indispensable tool in discovering talents from the grassroots, noting that there are opportunities to get raw talents from there if investment is made toward it.
Okiri made the assertion on Saturday shortly after Comprehensive Secondary School of Opobo defeated Government Technical Collage Ahoada 1-0 in the finals match of this year State principal’s Cup Competition at the Sharks football Stadium in Port Harcourt.
He used the forum to thank the State Governor for creating the enabling environment for the competition to hold and also appreciated all the Local Government Council Chairmen for ensuring there LGAs participated in the tournament.
“The best we can do is to invest in School Sports and we will eventually get the raw talents and harness them.
“School Sports is an indispensable tool for sports development at the grassroots.
“ Here in Rivers State we need to thank the State Governor for creating the enabling ennvironment for the competition to hold”, Okiri said.
The Special Adviser congratulated all the participating teams, adding that the competition has given the players experience and exposure in the round leather game.
“ I specially commend the winning team, CSS Opobo for what they have done today.
“I also thank the Local Government Council Chairmen who have made sacrifice to ensure that their schools participated in the tournament” he stated.
He assured the winners that they would receive blessings from the State Government after winning the National Principal’s Cup.
Meanwhile, Okrika Grammer School (OGS) were disqualified from the final match for fielding over age players in their previous game.
CSS of Opobo will now represent Rivers State at the zonal level.
