The Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board (RSPHCMB) has finalised plans to commence a 13-day integrated measles vaccination campaign across the 23 local government areas, tomorrow.
A statement dated October 27, 2022, and signed by the Permanent Secretary, RSPHCMB, Dr Agiriye Harry, said that professional vaccinators would traverse the length and breathe of the state to vaccinate heard-to-reach and vulnerable people of the state.
The statement read: “As a follow up to the notification letter sent from the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, regarding the Integrated Measles Campaign, I regret to inform you that Rivers State is among several other states affected by the recent shift of date of implementation by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.
“Consequently, the Rivers State Government in collaboration with its partners will, therefore, conduct the Integrated Measles Vaccination Campaign from November 3, 2022 through November 16, 2022, in two streams across the LGAs.
“During the measles campaign, the measles conjugate vaccine will be given to children nine months to 59 months, other routine childhood immunisations will be given to children 0-23months and COVID-19 vaccination for adults and all eligible individuals will be given by our service providers.
“Our vaccination teams will be in government health facilities; designated vaccinated posts within the communities, schools, special centres and places of worship.
“These vaccines are safe, effective and free of charge.
“We solicit your support to kindly use your structures to disseminate this information to parents and care-givers to permit our teams vaccinate all eligible participants in this campaign,” the statement said.
