Ogoni Nations Cup: 17 Teams Battle For One Trophy

A total of 17 teams from the four Local Government Areas of Ogoni extraction in Rivers State, Tai, Eleme, Gokana are competing in Ogoni Nations Cup (ONC) tournament.
The competition which started on Saturday saw huge attendance during the opening ceremony, at Birabi Memorial Grammar School (BMGS) Bori in Khana Local Government Area, in the State.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Chairman of Local Organising Committee (LOC) Blessing Letamina, said the tournament is to sustain and foster the existing peace and love in area, saying that it was also intended to engage youths meaningfully.
According to her, the main reason for the competition is to discover talents from Ogoni Kingdom that can play football both national and international.
“It is like a dream come through because it has been so hectic to ensure that the competition kick started.
“The tournament would create an opportunity to engage the youths meaningfully.
“ I am grateful that the first edition of the ONC is going on successfully and I know it will create an impact on  our youth.
We expect more than these numbers of teams but am sure people are waiting for the outcome of this edition.
She commended the sponsor of the tournament, Anthony Waadah, the founder of Legbo Sports Academy for the good initiative which will give the youths a platform to excel.
The LOC Chairman used the forum to call on Ogoni sons and daughters to support the programme to achieve its purpose.
