Man Petitions CP Over Alleged Burglary
A middle aged man and a resident of Rivers State known as Francis Gideon has petitioned the authorities of the Rivers State Police Command led by CP Effiong Okon over an alleged wanton destruction and burglary of his shop by a serving female Assistant Superintendent of Police with the state police command , ASP Juliet Obi serving at Mgbuosimiri Divisional Police headquarters .
In an interview with journalists in Port Harcourt on Monday, Mr Gideon said he rented the shop located at No 5 Odumini Street in Mgbuosimini community from his landlady and paid all the statutory payment for the operation of the shop before the keys were handed over to him legitimately .
“But I was shocked and surprised, I did not know if the shop was in any contention between my landlady and her step mother a serving superior police officer (Supol) , ASP Juliet Obi serving at Agip Police station at Mgbuoshimini “.
“So I was shocked on the 28th of October, 2022 in the morning, ASP Juliet Obi broke into my shop threw out my property, damaged my property and goods worth millions of Naira and told me to go to anywhere I like, and boasted that nothing will happen”.
“I called my landlady who happened to be ASP Juliet Obi’s step daughter and she came there and cried, shouting for help from the community, but nobody came to her rescue .
According to him he immediately lodged his complain at the Police station at Agip road, Mgbuoshimini and made entry on the same day being 28th October 2022, adding that he was given full assurance and hope that he would be invited but surprisingly ,till this moment , nobody has called him .
“Thereafter I wrote a petition to the Commissioner of Police on the same 28th October, since then nobody has called me. That means what the woman is saying is true that nothing will happen as she is a Police Officer.”
“That means a police officer can wake up in the morning and carry knife and kill somebody and nothing will happens.”
“I am demanding for Justice, I am demanding that the issue be looked into.
“A Police Officer cannot wake up and break into someone’s shop. The Commissioner of Police should take up this matter. I want to find out how someone will break into another person’s house and say nothing will happen. Since two weeks I have not heard anything from the Police. I am suffering; I want people to call the Commissioner of Police to look into this matter
Our correspondent also cited a letter written by a human rights group, Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign on behalf of Francis Gideon, addressed to the Commissioner of Police, dated 28th October,2022 and stamped by the Office of the Commissioner of Police on the same date as well as video showing the said female Police Officer bringing out property believed to belong to Mr Gideon.
However, ,the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Grace Irene Koko, is yet to respond to requests from newsmen concerning the matter.
