The Ministry of Sports and Youth Development has appointed former Director-General, National Sports Commission, Gbenga Elegbeleye, Chairman of an 11-man Interim Management Committee to manage the affairs of the Nigeria Professional Football League.
This comes after the sports ministry scrapped the League Management Company, the NPFL’s supervisory body, September 9, terming it “illegal.”
The IMC will supervise the activities of the domestic league, until a new board is set up to revive the league, in line with the 10-year football master plan by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), the sports ministry said in a statement
The ministry, in the statement dated September 30 and signed by its Director, Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Manga, stated, “In line with the 10-year football master plan as approved by President Muhammadu Buhari towards the revitalisation of the domestic league, an 11-man Interim Management Committee is hereby set up to oversee the affairs of the league until a proper professional league board is put in place statutorily.”
Veteran journalist, sports administrator and Chairman, Akwa United, Paul Bassey, serves as the Vice Chairman, while Olumide Bamiduro is the secretary.
