‘Sound Mental Health Crucial For Society To Function Effectively’

Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has said that a sound mental state of health was crucial for people to function effectively in the society.
Banigo stated this in her goodwill message in Government House, Port Harcourt, yesterday, to commemorate the 2022 World Mental Health Day.
The deputy governor, while advising people to take the responsibility of promoting their mental health through positive and productive activities disclosed that the socio-economic and political development of any society depends on the collective actions or inaction of the people.
Banigo said under the watch of Governor Nyesom Wike, the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Rumuigbo, has been fully renovated and runs a 24hours’ service, stressing that people with mental health challenges would be relieved if they avail themselves of the services of hospital, which according to her, have the high number of consultants.
The public health physician advised people to settle their differences amicably, engage in healthy physical and mental exercises, avoid the use of harmful substances and ensure they are involved in healthy social network organisations.
The October 10 each year has been set aside to commemorate World Mental Health Day.
The theme for this year’s celebration is: “Making Mental Health and Wellbeing for all a Global Priority”.
