The Rivers State House of Assembly has restated its commitment to continuously protect the rights of women in the state.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani, said this during the unveiling of the maiden edition of the Ruthies African Magazine, published by the wife of a former commissioner for special duties in the state, Mrs Ruthies Davies Ibiamu, in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
He said it was in line with this that the Ninth Assembly recently enacted a law to emancipate the women.
The speaker described Mrs Ibiamu as a pride to the state, adding that her magazine would showcase the beauty of not just the Rivers women but the entire Rivers State to the world.
In her welcome address, Mrs Ruthies Davies Ibiamu, said the magazine which is fashion based is meant to celebrate the beauty of Rivers women and to encourage Rivers women to value their culture and attire.
The publisher described the large turn-out at the launching as a show of love.
Also speaking, former commissioner for special duties, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said the magazine was worth encouraging as it showcases the beauty of the Rivers woman.
Ikanya said it was high time the Rivers people appreciate and value their culture, adding that every part of the state was endowed with cultural heritages that should be encouraged.
