Rivers Police Probe Killing By OSPAC Commander
The Rivers State Police command says investigation is ongoing in the alleged killing of a young man by the disbanded OSPAC commander in Emohua Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson of the State Police command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko who confirmed the incident via a telephone, said the state police commissioner has directed for immediate investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the family of the late Okechukwu Eleonu who was former Chairman of Mgbuola community in Ndele community, Emohua Local Government Area of the State allegedly killed by the former commander of disbanded OSPAC (local vigilance group) in the community last Saturday has cried out for justice.
Speaking to journalists on Monday in Ndele, Victor Eleonu, the younger brother to the deceased victim, in an interview said he was informed by an eye witness that the crime my late brother committed was that he reported an illegal oil bunkering business going on in the community to the Nigeria Police which the disbanded OSPAC commander allegedly being the leader of the illegal oil bunkering business.
According to him, the former OSPAC boss in the area on hearing the information that my elder brother had reported the matter to the police in the area, laid ambush on sighting him coming that day and shot him.
“The matter has been reported to Rumuji Police station but no arrest has been made”.
The wife of the deceased victim, Mary Eleonu who is a mother of three called on the security agencies to arrest the culprit.
”The commander of defunct OSPAC in the community shot my husband dead yesterday (last Saturday). Before I went to where they shot him, he is dead. He was in the mortuary now. I have three children, two boys and one girl. I want government to arrest him (killer of my husband). He said nobody can catch him. He said nobody can do him anything. I am now a widow and my daughters want to write WAEC. I do not have money. It is my husband that has been catering for me. He said my husband has removed him from OSPAC and wanted to close where he (former OSPAC commander) was doing bunkering, kpo-fire, that is why he shot him”, she said.
