The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) standard bearer in Rivers State, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, has described as a significantly good omen the presidential recognition of the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, with the Distinguished Award in Infrastructure Delivery.
The PDP governorship candidate stressed that the award was a direct confirmation of the outstanding leadership of the governor.
Fubara noted that for President Muhammadu Buhari to recognise the unprecedented contributions of Governor Nyesom Wike in providing quality infrastructure, among the pack of governors in the country despite coming from an opposition party, speaks volumes on the visionary leadership that the governor has provided for Rivers people.
He congratulated Wike for making Rivers people proud, and enjoined the people to keep giving the governor support to continue with the good works of delivering the dividends of democracy till the last day of his administration.
The gubernatorial candidate further lauded the efforts of Wike in bringing Rivers State from the depths of obscurity to great limelight in national affairs.
He said it was cheering news to Rivers people for the Federal Government of Nigeria to nominate Wike, for the Distinguished Award in Infrastructure Delivery, at the forthcoming Nigerian Excellence in Public Service Award billed to hold at the State House Conference Hall, Abuja on October 21, 2022.
The award is to be presented to the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Earlier, the Federal Government had nominated the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, to receive the “Distinguished Award in Infrastructure Delivery” at the forthcoming Nigeria Excellence in Public Service Award.
President Muhammadu Buhari will on October 21, present the award to the governor at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, said in a letter.
The letter addressed to Wike, was signed by the Permanent Secretary (General Services) in the SGF’s Office, Dr. Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri.
Wike, who was sworn in as governor on May 29, 2015, has ensured the transformation of the landscape of Rivers State through the provision of people-orientated projects across communities in the 23 local government areas of the state.
Apart from road construction and urban renewal, Wike has transformed state-owned health facilities into medical masterpieces.
His giant strides in road construction and rehabilitation; the construction of an unprecedented 12 flyovers in the state, healthcare infrastructure; education, health, sports, and agriculture, among others, led many, including the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, to give him the ‘Mr. Projects’ title.
The governor, who has turned the state into a huge construction site, has several ongoing projects across communities.
He has also vowed to complete all the projects started by his administration before leaving office on May 29, 2023.
The governor has, at several fora, vowed not to rest on his oars until his last day in office.
Wike said: “The only way we can show gratitude to the people for the confidence they reposed in us is to continue to serve them with all our heart and might.”
“I will continue to commission projects until the last day. We can’t stop. We were elected to serve the people. We will continue to offer quality services to our people.
“Even our worst critics will agree that we have delivered excellently on our campaign promises. By God’s grace we will finish strong and our incoming governor, Siminialayi Fubara, will continue in our legacy of quality service to our people.”
