Guber Candidate Insists On Violence, Crime – Free Election
The governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), in Rivers State, Engr, Danagogo Opurum Wenike-Briggs, has insisted that the state must conduct elections devoid of violence and intimidation come 2023.
Wenike-Briggs said this in a statement by its Campaign Media Director, Eze Princewill and made available to the press in Port Harcourt yesterday.
The statement hinted on plans to carry out door-to-door sensitisation of the people, especially youths against violence before, during and after the elections.
According to the YPP Media Team, the best way to produce a credible Governor or any other political office holder was through the ballot and not by gun barrels or violence.
“When leaders emerge through a non violence system, the people will be happy. But When a crude means is used to gain power, the system will remain tensed and violence will rent the air”, added.
The statement maintained that crime/ violence must be seen as an old pattern of gaining any useful development as legality cannot be adjudged to legality.
It further appealed with parents/guidance to always make out time and admonish their children/wards against crime.
“Those involved in crime are low minded people. We all must preach against it and do more in the areas of love and peace teaching in our homes, churches and Mosques”, it said.
The statement also appealed with the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike to tamper justice with mercy concerning the Executive Order 21.
It argued that the Order though will control a lot of unnecessary campaign gatherings, but said that monetary involvement should be revisited.
“We in YPP are law abiding. We will not resist the government but are always ready to do or comply with Government Orders. That’s how we can build a formidable state free from crime”, it said.
Meanwhile, it has called on all those who have concluded to execute crime to consider relocation as it will never be business as usual.
