Group Tasks Rivers Community On Security

The Asha Committee of Friends of Ndashi community in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, has called on the people of the area to beef up security around them as the Christmas celebration is fast approaching.
The Public Relations Officer of the group, Mr Livinus Eke, who made the call shortly after the monthly general meeting of the group in Ndashi community recently, also urged the people to use this period of new yam festival to unite the community and work together as a united people to achieve common goals and aspirations.
Eke, who is also the Chief Fire Officer of the Rivers State Fire Service in Port Harcourt, said times like these demand the people of the community to be security –conscious and embrace peace and harmony to user in unprecedented development in the area.
He equally appealed to the people to stop storing inflammable materials like petroleum products, especially adulterated fuel and kerosene got from illegal bunkering (Kpofire) in and around their homes to prevent fire outbreaks in these Ember months.
Eke, on behalf of the group, urged other groups in the community, including youth leaders, women, elders, village heads and members of the Community Development Committee (CDC) to report any criminal activities in the area to the relevant authorities for prompt action.
The group specially appealed to prominent sons and daughters of Ndashi community especially those in government to attract government presence to the area, and decried a situation where Government Secondary School, Ndashi is in a sorry state, and called for its immediate renovation.
The group also lamented that there is no clinic in the area, a situation, which it said has made the people to often patronise roadside drug dealers for treatment of their ailments, and appealed for intervention in this area.
It also indicated that the people need pipe borne water in the community to address a situation where they fetch water from contaminated streams in the area.
