Rivers Utd Confident Against Watanga FC In CAF Champions League

As the 2022-2023 CAF Champions League competition begins this weekend, the Nigeria Professional Football League, (NPFL), Champions, Rivers United FC will face Watanga FC of Liberia on Sunday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.
Speaking in a press conference on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, ahead of the first preliminary round first leg game, team captain, Festus Austin, said they were looking forward to a positive outing, to ensure they kept the faith for progression in the competition.
According to him, the good people of Rivers State and indeed, whole Nigeria are hoping to see them deliver in the tournament, adding that they know they have a big task ahead of them for the new season of the round leather game.
“We know we have big tasks ahead of us, so we will continue to work hard and positively, we will do our best to ensure we keep up the image of the club.
“The whole of Nigeria, especially, the good people of Rivers State are hoping to see us deliver,” Austin said.
Also speaking, the centre forward of the team, Nyima Nwagua, said they were not under any pressure, adding that they want to prove to the World that they are not a push over or accidental champions but the real champions of the NPFL.
He said that right now, they are not playing for Rivers State alone but also carrying the Nigerian flag.
“You know when you are carrying about 180 million people on your shoulder, you have to put in your best and you have to make them proud.
“ In as much as we know that we are not under any pressure I still feel like, individually, we want to challenge ourselves to do better,” Nwagua said.
