Rivers CJ Inaugurates Committee To Review Draft Rules

Rivers State High Court has inaugurated a Colloquium Committee on the Review of Draft Rules of the High Court of the state.
In his speech while inaugurating the committee, Chief Judge of the state, Justice Chibuzor Simeon Amadi, charged members of the committee to ensure rules that would take care of already existing and emerging situations not only in the state but in the entire world.
Justice Amadi reminded the committee about the importance of rules of the court, which he said, were veritable instruments in the administration of justice, insisting that without rules of court, the law cannot serve its purpose.
The state chief judge, however, gave the Colloquium Committee on the Review of Draft Rules of the High Court 60 days to conclude their assignment and submit the report for signing.
In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of the Committee on Justice, Justice Boma Diepiri while commending the chief judge for the confidence repose on them, also disclosed some of the recommendations already in the rules, including solution to the E-filing and dress code, just as he assured that they would do everything possible to bring it in tune to the modern society.
Meanwhile, a Port Harcourt-based legal practitioner has been remanded in Port Harcourt Correctional Centre on five counts charge bordering on alleged forgery.
According to a charge sheet read out in court, the lawyer was alleged to have on July 18, 2022, forged a court order in the name of a Magistrate Court of Rivers State in Port Harcourt with intent to be acted upon as genuine order.
The lawyer, in counts two, three and four, was alleged to have on the same date, forged a signature and mark of the Principal Registrar, the Magistrate Court with fake name, and also forged the seal of the Magistrate Court of the state.
The lawyer was also alleged to have, without lawful authority, made a purported court document with the name of non-existent Senior Magistrate J.I.Amadi, which is purported to have been processed by the Principal Registrar, an offence which the court said was punishable under Section of Criminal Code Laws of Rivers State.
When the charges were read, the accused pleaded not guilty.
The Presiding Magistrate, MenenenPoromon,however, adjourned to September 26, for consideration of bail application, and ordered that the accused be remanded in Correctional Centre till next adjourned date.
