Oba Projects Omoku For City Status
Oba of Ogba Land, His Eminence, Nwachukwu Nnam Obi III, has said that Omuoku, the headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, was due to be accorded recognition as a city.
He stated this when members of the Happy Hour Committee, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Omuoku.
The legal icon said Rivers State should be wary of having one city state, saying that the State was not symnonious with Port Harcourt.
According to the Ogba King, his place was among the areas tipped for such recognition, given the high level of natural resources in its soil.
He said such status cannot be accorded his Kingdom without the aid of journalists, who he described as a beautiful bride.
“You must project everything good in the land. There are things people can learn from us and we from them. Do all you can to protect us, if we grow, you grow”, he said.
According to him, the delay in according a city status to his place “is worth crying for.
“None can stop the sun from shining. I will say that there will be a rising from the dust. Ogba is crying, they should not cry, what I see, they do not see”, he said.
The Okoya I of Ogba Land, also called on members of the NUJ to see the issue of unwinding as contingent, based on what they do, noting that “not many people within this clime know that men ought to rest, because life devoid of rejuvenation was not life.”
Earlier, the leader of the NUJ Happy Hour Committee, Dr. Ijeoma Achelonu, thanked the Oba and his people over their warmth reception and fatherly advice.
She promised on behalf of the Union to maintain its pride as a ‘beautiful bride’ and its position as the Fourth Estate of the Realm.
