MAN Vows To Tackle Business Challenges
The newly elected Chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Cross River/Akwa Ibom States Branch, Mr Akin Oyediran, has said he will tackle challenges in the manufacturing sector under his jurisdiction through advocacy with the governments of both states.
Oyediran, who is also the President of the Medical Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and Managing Director of Jubilee Manufacturing Company in Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, said it was advocacy that led to the ban on the importation of substandard syringes into the country by the Senate, last year.
Starting this in an with The Tide’s source, he said the sector has been crippled by so many factors, including forex sourcing, especially with the current economic situation in the country.
Oyediran said, “The Medical Manufacturers Association was able to get the Senate to ban syringes last year, and get the Ministry of Health to ensure that Nigerian-made syringes were used in hospitals across Nigeria.
“So, if we can take that kind of advocacy work from what the Medical Manufacturers Association has done, and help the manufacturing industries in this region, it will be good for us.
“The outgoing Chairman has done very well in bringing up the association from comatose. My mandate is to go out there and do more advocacy work with the governments to help the manufacturing industries in terms of foreign exchange, tax control, government policies, and road construction”.
He added that the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, was creating an enabling environment through the construction of roads and other incentives.
He said his push for the relocation of the branch headquarters from Cross River State to Akwa Ibom State was because the government of Akwa Ibom State was more business friendly.
