Literacy Day: National Library Donates Books To Orphanage
The National Library of Nigeria (NLN) has donated some books to House of Recab, an orphanage in Jos, as part of activities to mark the 2022 International Literacy Day.
The Head of Jos branch of NLN, Mrs Sarah Emmanuel, who presented the books yesterday, said that the gesture aimed at promoting reading culture among young people, particularly the hard-to- reach.
She also said the gesture would create deeper awareness on the importance of reading and writing with understanding toward the growth and development of the society.
“This visit is organised mainly to mark this year’s International Literacy Day and to create awareness and encourage these children on the importance of reading and writing with understanding.
“We have donated some books to them as a stimulus toward improving their reading culture with a view to ensuring a literate society
“These books will add to the stock of books they already have in their library,” she said.
Receiving the books, the director of the orphanage, Mr Anthony Toyin, thanked the donors for the gesture and assured them that it would be put to good use.
He promised to continue to promote reading culture among the children, adding that such move would enable them to become better persons in the society.
