Sports, Education Ministries Plan Alliance To Revive School Sports

The Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Prof Chinedu Mmom has disclosed that he is planning an alliance with the State’s Ministry of Sports to revive school sports in the 23 local government areas of the state.
According to him, school sports were the avenue through which talents were discovered and developed during his time, adding that schools sports are the right place to catch them young in sporting activities.
Prof Mmom said this on Monday in a chat with sports journalists in Port Harcourt.
He said that the process will discover budding talents in both senior and junior secondary schools in the state, adding that the plan is also to see how they can initiate school sports festival that would accommodate not only football but all the sporting activities.
“ I and the commissioner of Sports, Barr Chris Green, are planning to see how we can initiate School Sports Festival that would not only centre on football but accommodate all other sports activities among the 23 LGAs of the state.
“ So, that we will be able to fish out the potential in these our kids and develop them in different areas of sports.
“ As you know, we have the Rivers State Real Madrid Football Academy so that those of them in football can join the academy.
“ Basically the Commissioner for Sports and I have discussed and we are trying to form a committee and in two weeks of resumption of school, we will be able to fine-tune all the arrangements to launch out the activities in all the 23 LGAs” Prof Mmom said.
He explained that the process will give all the kids the opportunity to showcase what he or she can do in any of the sporting activities.
