The Management and staff of Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt have expressed appreciation to the Rivers State Government for its support as they prepare for a new football season.
The team is thankful to the state’s Executive Governor and number one supporter, Governor Nyesom Wike for all the provisions he has made available to the club through the Honourable Commissioner for sports Barrister Christopher Green.
This was contained in a statement signed and made available to Tidesports by the Media officer of the club, Charles Mayuku over the weekend in Port Harcourt.
The statement also said that for the preseason tour, the General Manager of Rivers United, Chief Okey Kpalukwu had admonished the players and officials to be disciplined and concentrate on their preparations for the task ahead.
The experienced administrator emphasised that the team must approach every preparation with the mindset of achieving set objectives which include moving into the group stage of the CAF Champions League, while reiterating that the team is not short of resources and quality players.
Kpalukwu stated that “Rivers United is very grateful and appreciates the managerial skills and contributions of the Commissioner for Sports towards placing the club where it belongs through the provision of support and resources.”
Ahead of the first leg preliminary round CAF Champions League tie against Watanga FC of Liberia, Rivers United is scheduled to have arrived Ikenne at the weekend for the Value-Jet Cup, as the team continues preparations for the new football season.
