Rivers Court Sentences 50-Year Old Man For Defiling 8-Year Minor

A Rivers State Juvenile Court in Port Harcourt presided over by Chief Magistrate Rita Ogugua, has sentenced one Uche Ogani, a 50-year old man, to four years imprisonment, with an option to pay N1million fine for defiling an eight-year old minor in a community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state, this year.
In a one-count charge brought against the convict by the state Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, the 52-year old convict was reported to have unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the eight-year old victim on July 1, 2022 at Omademe community in Ikwerre.
The police said that the offence was punishable under the Criminal Code Law of Rivers State, 1999, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
After the charge was read, the convict pleaded guilty to the one-count charge against him, and asked the court to have mercy and temper justice with mercy.
Delivering her ruling on the matter, the presiding Chief Magistrate, Rita Ogugua, after listening to the charges and plea, sentenced Ogani to four years imprisonment, with an option to pay N1million to the family of the minor.
