Meanwhile, the world’s largest supplier of athletic shoes Nike opened their flagship store in Nigeria at the Ikeja City Mall in Lagos last week.
The first Nike retail store was launched in the presence of media and personalities in sports. The launch revealed that Nike had serious plans in Africa and particularly Nigeria.
The General Manager of Hudson Holdings which manages Nike, Kieran Murphy spoke about the store and their plans for Nigeria.
“This store is a statement of how serious we are about offering the best product and from this we are going to catapult ourselves throughout Nigeria from a retail perspective and also to aid the community. We are going to be involved in a lot of activities whether it be at universities or sporting events,” he told Tidesports source.
“At the moment, we sponsor the Nigerian Super Eagles and while we are not happy that they didn’t qualify for the World Cup, the Falcons qualified which shows that women always work out best. Nike is connected with the Basketball league as well.
“We are looking at a lot of different avenues where we can get ourselves involved with various sporting activities in Nigeria. We can’t be everywhere at once, so we’ll build over the next 5, 10, 15 years from now.”
