Pearlescent Foundation Returns Mothers, Babies Home …As They Pay Bills For Patients

A Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) under the aegis of Pearlescent Foundation, (PF) on August 3, 2022, reunited mothers and babies to their families after being held back by the hospital for their inability to pay up their hospital bills at University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH

The NGO further in the bid to encourage early antenatal registration and healthy pregnancy journey paid for Antenatal packages for some mothers at the antenatal clinic in the World Breastfeeding Week.

 

Speaking at the event the representative of the Pearlescent Foundation, Mrs Pakafuro Orakwue, advised mothers to keep up their good works by always breastfeeding their babies, irrespective of time and place.

 

” I encourage all the women not to shy away from their responsibilities and always be willing to be a support systems to their husbands in ensuring that healthy babies are born and nurtured.

 

” We are here in commemoration of this year’s World Breastfeeding Day, as a foundation our duty is basically to enlighten breastfeeding mothers and expecting mothers on the importance of breastfeeding.

 

” As an NGO we have paid antenatal fees and packages for some pregnant women, also clear the bills for some mothers that gave birth within the breastfeeding week.

” I must tell you that the beneficiaries who were picked had no prior knowledge of the event, they only came to the clinic to see their doctors on appointment”, Mrs Orakwue said.

 

Meanwhile, it was Dr. Rosemary Ogu,the head of department, Obstetrics and Gynaecology who led team of nurses that received members of the Foundation, they conducted them around various wards, including gynecology ward, where bills were equally paid for those who could not afford their bills charged them by the hospital management after delivery.

 

In her reaction, Nkechi Amadi, one of the beneficiaries , thanked Pearlescent Foundation, for paying her bills.

 

According to her, she underwent a cesarean surgery and was held back by the hospital, hence she didn’t have the money to pay but a miracle happened unexpectedly as the Foundation paid all her bills.

 

She also thanked the Founder of Pearlescent Foundation Ms. Rita Chekeru Owhonda, who she heard was not present but had ensured a smooth execution by her team of an exercise that has brought relief to her and her family. She expressed immense gratitude and prayed for more of these gestures that will bring hope to hopeless in the society.

 

Also thanking the foundation, the head of department, Dr Rosemary Ogu called out to well meaning Nigerians and NGO’s for more support and to toe the same part as Pearlescent Foundation.

 

It will be recalled that the NGO had celebrated the previous World Breastfeeding breastfeeding Week (2021) also in UPTH where breastfeeding pillows were given to mothers in the Paediatrics and gynaecology department of the hospital.
