The chieftaincy crisis that has been rocking the Mgbundukwu Community in Mile II, Diobu, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State has taken another twist.
According to a press release signed by the Palace Secretary, Chief Chijioke Amadi, and made available to the press, “The Paramount Ruler/Nyenweli Mgbundukwu Community, Eze Owabie Tobin has won the round one of the matter.” It added that the factional leaders of the community could not prove their case against the monarch at the Zone 16 of the Rivers/Bayelsa States Police Command, where the matter was reported.
The release stated further that since the community did not present any challenger to the said throne and the monarch, having substantiated his coronation for the throne with evidence shows that he is still the King.
Amadi stated further that from every sense of reasoning, the paramount ruler is not taking the matter lying low and plans to sue the factional leaders of the community to the High Court for malicious damages, libel and defamation of character.
They also stated that the alleged attack on the paramount ruler was politically motivated as he was perceived as having sympathy with the Governor Nyesom Wike government while the leaders were predominantly of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Most of the leaders, other sources say are on the run as the royal father prepares to start the round two of the matter.
The good thing, according to a community leader in a nearby community, Mr. Simeon Wigodo, is that the case has not affected the administration or socio-economic activities of the Mgbudunkwu Community neither have the people resorted to violence as some others would have done.
Amadi indicated that sometime earlier this year, some persons from the community questioned the authenticity and origin of their paramount ruler/Nyenweli after 23 years on the throne by not only putting it in writing but went ahead and allegedly assaulted the monarch during one of their town hall meetings and still dragged him to the Police Zone 16 headquarters in Bayelsa State but could not substantiate their allegation, and abandoned the case and disappeared.
