Group Launches NMFB Scheme For 25,000 Entrepreneurs

The Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises-Niger Delta (LIFE-ND) has launched its certification scheme for access to Nirsal Micro Finance Bank (NMFB) loan for 25,250 entrepreneurs in Niger Delta.
The LIFE-ND National Coordinator, Mr Abiodun Sanni, disclosed this, recently, at a stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt.
Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises-Niger Delta is in partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to train youths in the Niger Delta to curb restiveness through job creation, food security and economic development.
Sanni said the launch of certification of LIFE-ND as an enterprenurship development institute by the Nirsal Micro Finance Bank would open way for trained participants in the region to access funds provided by IFAD and other partners.
He explained that the scheme, which is suposed to end by 2025, was initiated by the Federal Government in 2019 and supported by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to reduce youth restiveness, unemployment and enhance food security.
Sanni disclosed that the programme is billed to take place in nine states of Niger Delta region, but is currently ongoing in six states, which are Abia, Bayelsa, Cross Rivers, Delta, Edo and Ondo states.
According to him, Akwa Ibom, Imo and Rivers states are yet to come on board because NDDC is yet to pay a counterpart fund of $30 million within a span of six years.
“We are supposed to interface with nine states in the region, but currently running in six. NDDC is expected to pay a counterpart fund of $30 million within a span of six years, just as IFAD is promptly putting in $60 million dollars for Abia, Bayelsa, Cross Rivers, Delta, Edo and Ondo States.
In his speech, the Project Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Engr Ubandoma Ularamu, represented by Dr Petef Kukwi, said the programme means a lot to the country as it’s aimed at eradicating unemployment, enhancing food security and lifting the livelihood of Nigerians.
Ularamu said Federal Government has invested much in agriculture, such as NIRSAL, to improve the lives of the people.
“We are happy so far that a step has been set up to train and empower youths and women with access to finance, because Niger Delta needs food scheme”, he said.
