Bizman Raises Alarm Over Broken Marriages

A Port Harcourt-based businessman, Mr Chukwuma Okah has raised an alarm over the rate of divorce among couples and warned them to be cautious of breaking their homes.
Mr Okah, who stated this while speaking in a public forum in Port Harcourt at the weekend, noted that dissolution of marriages had become preponderant in recent years.
He warned that the way it was going the spiral effect would be too difficult for the society to bear.
He described the family as the nucleus of the society and urged parents to ensure that children were raised in line with the Christian concept.
Mr Okah said most of the hooligans, hoodlums, kidnappers, drug addicts and sundry other criminals were products of broken homes.
He said it was shocking that more than 80 % of divorcees were Christians.
He described Christian marriages as “until death do they part” and expressed shock on what had become of the institution of marriage.
According to him, marriage is one of God’s greatest and urged humanity to pay it the respect it deserved.
He told parents and clergymen to do all in their power to preserve the sacred institution was desecrated.
“A great number of marriages are facing dissolution in both customary and high courts with reservation in spite of what will become of their offspring,” he stated.
He said parents ought to be mindful of their actions as whatever they did would have their offspring.
He said the society would be better off if couples preserved the sacred institution.
Mr Okah remarked that all hands ought to be on deck salvage the institution.
He said the growing apathy towards marriage among marriageable youth was as a result of dissolution of many.
He called on the judiciary to be wary of dissolution of marriages except on extreme cases.
He explained that there must be a deliberate attempt to save our marriages.
