Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Barrister George Ariolu, has again encouraged members of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) to portray competence and commitment in the service to their fatherland.
The compulsory NYSC service year as well as the actions and inactions of corp members, Ariolu explained, have their attendant benefits to the individuals and society.
Ariolu gave this advise, last Wednesday, when he received the Obio/Akpor Council Director of Education, NYSC Local Government Instructor and members of 2021 NYSC Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 whose service year in the council headquarters came to a close, yesterday.
The chairman noted some challenges associated with the NYSC, pointing out the hurdles members must scale through due to the recent changes that have occurred in the system.
Ariolu, who re-echoed his resolve to continue to carter for welfare of corps members and support them in relevant areas, reiterated that it has become a ritual for his administration to always support NYSC members with incentives through his consistent interaction with outgoing corps members.
Since his emergence, Ariolu maintained, his administration has regularly adopted an approach of supporting NYSC members whose service year in the council headquarters has come to a close with stipends as a way of encouragement from the council.
He further encouraged them to apply the experiences garnered from their service year to strengthen the weaknesses that may arise as a result of the opportunities life would present.
Similarly, he advised the outgoing corp members to embrace new ideas by acquiring relevant skills while searching for white collar jobs, noting that the nation was gradually switching into an era of entrepreneurship.
On his part, the NYSC Local Government Instructor, Mr James Elogbo, promised to redouble efforts in checkmating activities of corps members in the council.
He thanked the chairman for his supports and contributions towards members of the NYSC serving in the council.
According to him, he expressed delight working with Ariolu to achieve his dreams of enhancing education in the area.
