2023: Let’s Support Our Own For Dep Gov, Obuah Tasks ONELGA People …As Ordu Visits Oba Of Ogbaland For Royal Blessing
Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in Rivers State, Bro. Felix Obuah, has called on the people of Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local Government Area and the entire people of Orashi region to support Prof. Ngozi Ordu, who he said was an elder sister and qualified person for the position of deputy governor of Rivers State under the PDP for the 2023 elections.
Obuah said this when he led a delegation, in company of major stakeholders in the area to visit the palace of His Eminence, Barrister Nwachukwu Nnam Obi, 111, Oba (Eze Ogba) of Ogbaland in Omoku, last Friday.
Those in the delegation included, the Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Council, Hon. Vincent Job; Dr. Stella Agada; Dr. Shedrack Akolokwu; Hon. Chukwu Shedrack Ogbogu; Hon. Ken Nwabochi; Hon. Victor Ahiakwo; Hon. Franklin Nwabochi; Hon. Emmanuel Nwabrije; among other top dignitaries.
In a brief remark, Obuah used the opportunity to intimate the Oba of Ogbaland and his cabinet chiefs on the need to galvanise support and mobilise all Ogba indigenes to actively participate in the forthcoming elections in 2023.
Obuah, who is popular known as Go Round, had aspired to be the candidate of the party but had to withdraw in the last minute owing to what most political watchers believed to be his desire to respect the wish of the party, which later nominated Sir Siminialyi Fubara, as the candidate of the party.
The former PDP chairman said that said he trusts Ordu to be a good deputy to the governorship candidate.
He used the opportunity to appeal to the people of the area and the Orashi region to support her.
Obuah said since it wasn’t possible for him to make it to the Brick House, they should all support Ordu to make it there alongside Fubara, whom the former chairman of the Rivers Waste Management Agency RIWAMA, described as a sellable candidate who would build on the enviable legacy of the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike.
“If I did not make it to the Government House, Port Harcourt, today, our sister, who is very qualified, is on the verge of going there. I will support her. My interest is the peace and prosperity of our area”, Obuah said.
Speaking, the Rivers State PDP Deputy Governorship candidate, Prof Ngozi Ordu, noted that the major aim of the visit was to obtain the royal blessing and authority from the Eze Ogba of Ogbaland.
Ordu said, “When people have so much confidence in you, it makes you have more challenge.
“It’s about giving back to my people, and I will not let them down”, she said.
Ordu expressed great pleasure with the opportunity, and optimism to place more focus on leaving behind a shining legacy, if elected as deputy governor of the state in 2023.
She emphasised that the need to seek for royal blessing in a journey she was about to embark to bring development to her people, saying that it was necessary to get the support of the grassroots people who see the Oba as the custodian of the cultural heritage and tradition.
In his short speech, the Oba of Ogbaland, Eze Nwachukwu Nnam Obi, 111, applauded Ordu’s humble gesture, and encouraged her not to get weary or distracted.
“When there’s a home coming, there’s always joy”, he said.
Elaborating further, the Oba of Ogbaland stated, “There are so many silent men, without them, nothing will work. I don’t want you to look at your party as your domain; your domain is your people”.
He gave his royal blessing to Ordu, and prayed for God’s guidance on the team.
In appreciation, the Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Council, Hon. Vincent Job, on behalf of the team, thanked the Oba for the honour done them, and assured him of their continued respect for the traditional institution.
Ordu was former commissioner of education in Rivers State during the era of Sir Celestine Omehia.
She was a Senior Lecturer of Food Microbiology and Public Health in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Biological Sciences, College of Natural and Applied Sciences.
She obtained her first degree in Microbiology from Paisley College of Technology, Renfrewshire, Scotland.
While in Scotland, she received the Best Academic Prize for two consecutive years (1977 and 1978 respectively).
Until her nomination, she was the Director of Academic Planning, PAMO University of Medical Sciences, Rivers State.
