‘Wike Impacted On Kalabari Than Other Govs’
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Degema Local Government Area, Hon. Michael Ekine, has said that the administration of the current Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has impacted on Kalabari land than others in recent times.
Speaking in a radio phone-in programme organised by Silverbird Communications in Port Harcourt, at the weekend, Ekine averred that Kalahari has benefitted both in political positions and development infrastructure.
He stated that the recent appointment of Dr. Dax Alabo George-Kelly as commissioner for works in the state has added to the sensitive positions manned by Kalabari people in the Wike administration.
Before George-Kelly’s appointment as works commissioner, Ekine recalled that the Kalabari occupied sensitive positions as secretary to the state government, and deputy governor, among others.
On infrastructure, Ekine said,”Wike has touched the Kalabari land hugely. We have not had it so good before.”
Among the infrastructure projects sited in Kalabari by the Wike-led administration include rehabilitation of Nyemoni Grammar School at Abonnema, the Tombia Community Secondary School, at Tombia, the reclamation and sandfilling at Obonoma,Bakana and Buguma.
He stressed that the ongoing Trans-Kalabari Road project shows the interest and respect Wike has for the people.
Ekine said it was unsavoury and condemnable for anyone to say that Wike has not done anything for Kalahari people, considering what was on ground.
Even on security, Ekine stated that the Wike-led administration acquired gun boats to check the menace of sea piracy, noting efforts being made by the local government authorities in the area to boost safety of lives along the Ogbakiri-Kalabari Road.
He urged the people to support the Wike-led administration, insisting that it means well for the people.
