A heavy downpour in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State has left three persons dead and over 100 households displaced.
The affected communities are Likdir, Buni-Gari and Kukuwa with the displaced persons currently taking refuge in public schools and relatives homes.
The Executive Secretary, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA), Dr. Mohammed Goje,  disclosed this in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, yesterday.
He also disclosed that crops and community food reserves were destroyed as a result of the flooding.
Goje who visited the affected communities and victims commiserated with them on behalf of the Yobe State Government and assured them of government immediate relief to cushion their hardship.
He said that he had informed the Chairman of the local government council of the need to relocate the victims to upper land areas to avoid more damage as the rainy season is just setting in and the locations have been identified as flood-prone areas.
Goje extended Governor Mai Mala Buni’s deepest condolences to the deceased families and prayed for the repose of the departed souls.
“On behalf of the governor, I have come to commiserate with you and assure you that government is aware of your plights and will do everything necessary to cushion the effect of this disaster.
“The rainy season is just setting in and these areas have been identified as flood-prone areas. We have informed the local government council chairmen to relocate the victims to the upper land areas in order to avoid any more damage that will be caused by such rains”, the SEMA boss said.
